AOC光纖線應用
What is AOC?
An Active Optical Cable (AOC) is a fiber-based cable assembly with optical transceivers integrated at both ends. It converts electrical signals into optical signals for transmission and then back into electrical signals, ensuring high bandwidth, long reach, and low latency.
Key Advantages
- High Bandwidth: Supports 10G, 25G, 100G, 200G, 400G, and beyond.
- Long Reach: Extends up to 100–300 m depending on fiber type.
- Lightweight & Flexible: Easier installation compared to copper DAC.
- Low EMI: Immune to electromagnetic interference, ensuring signal quality.
- Energy Efficient: Lower power consumption compared to traditional transceivers + patch cords.
Application Scenarios
(1) Data Centers
AOCs are widely used for interconnecting servers, switches, and storage devices in cloud and enterprise data centers. They provide higher bandwidth than DACs, while maintaining lower power consumption compared to transceiver + patch cord solutions.
(2) High-Performance Computing (HPC) & AI Clusters
In HPC and AI training clusters, AOCs deliver low-latency and high-bandwidth GPU-to-GPU and node-to-node connections. Their lightweight and flexible design helps reduce cabling complexity in dense racks.
(3) Enterprise Networks
AOCs are used to connect routers, switches, and storage systems within enterprise IT infrastructure. They offer a balance of cost, performance, and ease of deployment.
(4) Telecom & 5G
Telecom operators use AOCs in fronthaul and backhaul connections, ensuring reliable, high-speed data transmission between base stations and aggregation points.
Comparison & Positioning
AOCs serve as a middle ground between DACs (short, low-cost, copper-based) and optical transceivers (long-distance, flexible, but more expensive). They are best suited for medium-distance, high-bandwidth applications.
Future Trends
The rapid adoption of 400G and 800G networks, driven by AI and cloud services, is fueling demand for high-performance AOCs. Future integration with technologies like LPO and CPO may further enhance AOC adoption.
